I have written two literary historical fantasy novels set in 16th century Europe. They are both currently under consideration by publishers.

The Threefold Death

The year is 1589. In a world where folk beliefs about magic and the supernatural are factually correct, Martín de Salas, a survivor of the Spanish Armada with wolf-like abilities, is stranded on the West coast of Ireland on the brink of war. Taking refuge with an Irish judge and his sister, he must avoid capture by the English and catch a murderer, while dealing with Irish politics and the dangerous, unpredictable Sidhe – the Irish fairy folk – as he tries to find his way home.

A Theft of Memory

A heist story set in Shakespeare’s London and Venice, involving a squad formed by Sephardic crypto-Jews and an Irish former judge, capers in memory palaces, cabbalistic safecracking, Kit Marlowe as a spy, and a lost play on King Arthur written in collaboration by an unwilling Shakespeare.

Poetry

I have two published books of poems in Spanish, Lume and El cabo y el ovillo.

More recently, I had a short poem, “The Blind Bride”, published in Divinations magazine. It was written as a response to a prompt – Stephen Mackey’s painting Séance.

Nerdery

I did my B.A. in Linguistics, specialising in Computational Linguistics, and my Ph.D. in Philosophy, specialising in Philosophy of Mind and Language. I also have a strong interest in psychoanalysis, and hold professional qualifications in translation and UX design, among other things.

I work as a freelance linguistic consultant, offering a wide range of services, from translation, interpretation, and copywriting to natural language processing, discourse and semantic analysis, semiotics, and user research and design.

As a recovering academic, I still offer academic translations (in a very broad sense) and a CV clinic and grant writing service at Translation for Academics.
